Stress free Christmas shopping in South Manchester

In December, Manchester city centre and other large shopping centres can be daunting and overwhelmingly busy. If you fancy a stress-free and pleasant shopping day out, head down to Didsbury in south Manchester. Didsbury has great transport links; it’s easy to get to on the Metrolink, on the bus or by car.

Didsbury village has a great range of shops and restaurants, such as Giddy Goat Toys – a traditional children’s toy shop. And shops like Harriet and Dee, with their gorgeous gifts and jewellery. The world famous Cheese Hamlet, an award winning cheese shop and deli. Bond and McQueen stock stylish women’s fashion and A Sweet Thought – a good old fashioned sweet shop.

Didsbury has lots of independent and family friendly restaurants, including the recently opened Caramello ice cream parlour and patisserie. All of which make Didsbury Village a lovely place to visit to shop, eat and drink.

Just up the road, West Didsbury has an eclectic range of independent shops like Belly Button for quirky gifts and jewellery and Steranko men’s and women’s clothing plus a huge range of restaurants and bars.  Whilst down the road in the other direction, East Didsbury has the Parrs Wood cinema and bowling complex, plus popular family restaurants, so you really can have a full day out.

We’ve picked out some of our favourite kid’s Christmas present ideas from Giddy Goat Toys which are available in their Didsbury shop, or online at www.giddygoattoys.co.uk.

Bigjigs Wooden Dinosaur Train Set - that’s right, dinosaurs and trains in one fabulous set! Priced at £49.99, this traditional wooden train set is ideal for small children who love both trains and dinosaurs.

Sylvian Families have some lovely playsets out at the moment; our favourite is the Sylvanian Families Adventure Treasure Ship which is £21.99 and includes lots of fun features for your Sylvanian’s to have fun on the high seas.

And at Number 1, because we live in Manchester, it has to be - Muddy Puddles Lottie.

Lottie is an award winning doll which has been designed to look like the average 9 year old girl. There are a variety of different Lottie dolls, including a Fossil Hunter, Footballer and Stargazer Lottie (who went to space with Tim Peake) plus more traditional ‘girlie’ Lottie’s like the Autumn Leaves and Ballet Lottie. The dolls start at £16.99 and accessory sets are £7.99.
