Puppets by The Puppet Company at Giddy Goat Toys

Here at Giddy Goat Toys we like to work with and stock toys from suppliers who are reliable, trustworthy and who provide high quality, value for money toys.  The Puppet Company are all of those things and what’s more, they’re lovely people too and have always been friendly, helpful and supportive to us as we established and developed our toy shop in Didsbury, Manchester.

The Puppet Company is run by husband and wife team Peter and Sue Lockey who founded the company in 1999 following interest and enquiries from friends and the general public in the puppets and puppet theatres they had made for their own children.

Their business was born and Sue and Peter grew from making their own puppets to sourcing manufacturers to make them on a larger scale, whilst still maintaining the designs for their range of puppets, which now includes farm animals, wild animals, birds and monsters plus fabulous finger puppets.

Their products are developed by their in house Design Team at their premises in Hitchin, North Hertfordshire whilst manufacturing takes place in the Far East by factories which are regularly visited by representatives from The Puppet Company to ensure that production is of the best quality and that the workers’ conditions are of the highest standards.

Two of their children for whom their initial puppets were made are now employed in the business making it a family business with a lovely nostalgic history to it.

In our Manchester toy shop their puppets make a wonderful addition to the toys we stock and their display stand allows us to show the range of puppets we have and let children and adults try them on for size and of course practice appropriate funny voices!

Our best selling line has to be the colourful bird puppets which make a fabulous squawking noise and which are available in two sizes, the large ones priced at £14.99 and the smaller ones at £11.99.  However for sheer bonkersness, my favourite has to be the red and black monster, who looks like a cross between Dennis the Menace and Animal from The Muppets!

Their range of first puppets are also incredibly popular with our customers and at just £6.99 they are well priced for a new baby gift that won’t break the bank but that is fun and colourful and encourages interaction between parents and babies.

Their finger puppets are also fun and colourful and we have a variety of creatures from insects to farm animals to monsters in our finger puppet display.  Ideal for complementing storytime, popping into a travel bag or as stocking fillers.

Puppets really can help to bring a story to life and what’s more they are an amazing way of encouraging your child to create their own stories or to help shy children to develop confidence in speaking up, as giving them the character of a puppet can often help a child find their own voice by initially providing the voice of a puppet.

This is something that Peter and Sue Lockey well understand.  Both have worked in the teaching profession and have combined their knowledge of teaching and puppetry and have developed and delivered workshops on the use of puppets in Early Years teaching across the UK.

Here at Giddy Goat Toys, we’re big fans of toys which encourage child-led play but which are also great fun and puppets fall perfectly into this category and we just love the variety of puppets that The Puppet Company provide, from the cute and cuddly to the wild and wacky, we’re proud to have The Puppet Company as one of our suppliers of quality, value for money, interesting and unusual toys.
